Boracay is a tourist trap, so there are a lot of hotels and restaurants and many of them are overpriced. Many of these hotels offer buffets, most being on the pricier side. Most of these buffets are 1200 php ($30 CAD) and up, but I came across a few that were cheap, one in particular was 400 php ($10). But you pay for what you get and the food was bland and lacked variety. Our second night, we came across the buffet at the Garden Café in the Hennan Garden Resort. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the buffet was a reasonable price of 900 php (just over $20 CAD). This was cheap for Boracay.
After the disappointing buffet the first night, I was worried about this one, but when I stepped foot onto the hotel grounds and saw the nice facility, beautiful lush garden and number of pools I knew we chose a better buffet for our final night in Boracay. I was limping because I just destroyed my toenail and toe at Pukka Beach. The hotel staff immediately noticed my limp and despite not staying in the hotel, the worker alerted her manager who came and found me during our dinner and applied first aid, cleaning the wound and changing the band aid. So the hotel grounds were nice, the service was good and the price of the buffet was reasonable, but how was the food?
The buffet was mostly Asian; there was Filipino food, Chinese, Japanese and even some fancy American style options. I had barbeque skewers, siopao, meatballs of differing varieties, siomai, fried rice, sushi and coleslaw. There were many other options too. The food was delicious and unlike many other buffets that I’ve been to, the food was fresh and hot. There is an extra price for alcohol, and the price sounded reasonable, but unlike normally, I didn’t opt for this option.
The service was good, hence the first aid, but also the staff who would top up your water and take your dirty plates came by frequently. And to top it off, in classic Boracay fashion, there was a fire show. The restaurant was nice too.
I can’t comment on the rooms, but the hotel grounds were beautiful, including a number of pools surrounded by gardens, the location is great, the staff and service is good and the food was excellent. The only downfall is there isn’t direct access to the beach from the hotel, being that you have to walk through a KFC and a long hallway to get to it, but it’s only a few minute walk. Next time we are back in Boracay I will definitely look into staying at the Hennan Garden Resort.
