When we arrived in Los Angeles, our first stop was to get our rental car, secondly it was to go for lunch. And what ‘s better than eating fresh seafood while overlooking the beach? We were staying in Venice Beach, so headed to Santa Monica first. We had trouble finding parking on the street so we settled for $10 a day to park in a nearby lot. There are plenty of paid parking lots in Santa Monica, so if you don’t want to drive around aimlessly looking for parking, pay to park in a lot that is close to the pier.
Everyone has seen photos of Santa Monica; the picturesque pier with the Ferris wheel overlooking the Pacific and protruding from the beach. It is packed but beautiful. We had to go there and were hungry so we decided on Bubba Gump Shrimp. I had a couple of beers and for food we had Jenny’s Salmon & Shrimp and the Captain’s Fish & Chips. The food was reasonably priced and tasted extremely fresh. The salmon was really good, and the shrimp was some of the most flavorful we’ve ever had. The fish and chips were good too, the fish was flavorful and flaked apart as I ate it. I had Bubba Gump Shrimp years ago and haven’t heard the best reviews recently, but the Bubba Gump Shrimp location on the Santa Monica Pier was excellent.
The beer was cold, the food was good, and the servers were extremely friendly, talking to us about our visit to LA and providing quick service. Not to mention, eating seafood on a pier overlooking the beach and ocean is something else. I will definitely go back to Bubba Gump Shrimp Santa Monica.
After we ate, we wandered the pier and took some photos. Bubba Gump was great but if you want something else there are plenty of other options on the pier from restaurants to food stands. And if you like rides or are travelling with children, there are the rides of Pacific Park. A wristband is $40, but for us, $12 was a fine price to pay for views overlooking the Pacific from the Ferris Wheel.
