One of my favorite places in Los Angeles is Sunset Boulevard; so on the morning of our Universal Studios day trip, we decided to head there for breakfast. I checked around for places with favorable reviews and settled for The Griddle Café. The Griddle is located right on Sunset Boulevard, so the location is a premium.
After a cruise around Sunset, we found parking a couple of blocks away and headed to the Griddle Café. The restaurant is a staple on Sunset Boulevard so I was worried about getting a table. The place was packed but we managed to get in without a problem. The atmosphere was that of a high-class American diner with a LA kick to it. Brick walls, wooden tables and plenty of noise are what you’ll notice when you enter The Griddle Cafe.
The menu looked great, and sometimes when there are too many good options, I get overwhelmed and choose one of the good looking dishes randomly. When looking at the menu after, I realized there were plenty of other options that sounded even better. But anyways, I went with the Sunset People, scrambled eggs loaded with bacon, cheese, potatoes, jalapenos and onions. I am not the biggest fan of onions and there were too many for my liking. But the serving was massive and the breakfast was okay. My fiancé ended up going with Mom’s French Toast. The French toast was massive, cooked to perfection and sweet. But the best part of our breakfast was the coffee. At the Griddle, it was the first time I’ve seen fresh coffee brought out in a massive French Press. You wait a few minutes and then pour your own cup.
Despite being busy the service was good. The food was okay, but the portions were humungous. It was a bit pricey, but for the size of the servings and the fact that we were eating right on Sunset Boulevard it wasn’t too bad. The location, the atmosphere and the coffee were the highlights of the restaurant. When I go back to Los Angeles, I will go back, except next time I’ll spend a bit more time exploring the menu.
