Things to do in Roxas City and Capiz

Baybay Beach

It’s not the clearest water, but the temperature is nice and it’s a big beach with lots of room to enjoy.  Go for a swim or enjoy a drink at one of the many restaurants lining the beach.

Street food in Peoples Park

I’m not the biggest fan of Filipino street food, but across the street from peoples park, which is right on the ocean has an assortment of vendors and food trucks.  Try the lumpia, fish balls, barbeque skewers, Filipino hot dog and deserts while taking in a view of the ocean.

Check out SM Roxas City or one of the other malls

Malls are big in Capiz because it’s where everyone goes when there’s a blackout.  Go to the mall, have some lunch or dinner in one of the many restaurants or appreciate the deals at the variety of stores.  The malls are very nice and the clothing is good value and different than what you’ll find in the west.

Piryahan

Piryahan is like carnival games with money on the line.  You can bet minimal amounts like 10 php ($0.25) and this is a fun experience when heading into town.  I did this is Pontevedra where the locals were nice and a lot of fun.

Visit the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Take a short ride outside of Roxas City, up the mountain to see the massive 132 ft. statue of Jesus.  The statue is massive and there is a catholic church below where you can say a prayer or attend a mass.  If religion isn’t for you, take a photo of the statue, it’s impressive and get a view of the beach from the top of the mountain.

Take a day trip to Iloilo

Iloilo is about 2 hours from Roxas City.  It is a bigger city and is a nice place to visit.  Again, the malls are very nice with lots of dining and shopping options and the city is clean.  You can visit Megaworld which is a developed area that has big condos hotels and shopping area or you can visit the local markets and port.

Street food on Magallanes Street

There are lots of street foods and restaurants to choose from on Magallanes Street.  Get a taste of Filipino street food and the local atmosphere or go to a bar or billiards hall and eat the street food after for a midnight snack.

Staycation at Villa Consorcia or San Antonio Resort

Whether you are in Pontevedra or Roxas City, there are nice hotels where you can go and get a break from the daily grind of the city/town.   In Pontevedra you can go to Villa Consorcia which has an awesome pool and water slide.  The hotel grounds are nice and there is a nice coffee shop and the food from the restaurant is good.

In Roxas City you can go to San Antonio Resort which is right across the street from the beach and San Antonio Resort Kainan Village (a place where you have options to choose from for a snack and beer by the beach).  There is also a nice pool, a good breakfast and the rooms are nice.

Trip to Boracay

The grand daddy of all things you can do when in Roxas or Capiz is go for a few nights to Boracay.  Boracay is a paradise; white sand, crystal blue waters, nice hotels and just a place to kick back your feet and enjoy the sun and beach.  There are also several overpriced water activities and excursions you have the option to choose from too.  Boracay is about 4 hours from Roxas and is definitely worth the trip.  Stay tuned for my videos and guide for Boracay in the coming weeks.
